Honoring Our Heroes

We see them at the grocery store, perhaps at Mass, walking the streets as a friendly neighbor, but we have many heroes, many service men and women amongst us with stories untold and experiences we couldn’t even fathom. To honor our military families and veterans was a very small gesture for the immense gratitude we feel and for the amount of sacrifices they have made not just for their families but for all of us.

The title of military wife is one that invokes a wide range of emotions. On one hand, it’s mustering every bit of strength to tirelessly hold down the “fort” aka home, anxiously waiting by the phone for that 3:00 am phone call from across the world, and learning to “go with the flow” of unexpected changes. At the same time, the title comes with just as many blessings. It’s the sense of overwhelming pride when hearing a military hymn or seeing the American flag, knowing that your husband is willing to sacrifice everything for the safety of his family and love of his country. It’s the instant comradery with other military families, knowing that with the many sacrifices made, come unbreakable bonds of loyalty. It’s the awe of your spouse’s willingness to learn, train (even in the harshest conditions!), and power through to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to selflessly help others. Most of all, it’s the overpowering emotion of gratitude-for God’s protection each day those boots hit home’s doorstep, and for the fearlessness determination shown by all service members. – Mrs. Kopf, East Lake Academy Learning Specialist

It was a privilege and an honor to show our appreciation to our military families and veterans, whose sacrifices and dedication ensure the freedoms we hold dear. Our school community came together to recognize the courage and commitment of those who have served and continue to serve, as well as the strength and resilience of their families. We aimed to express our gratitude for their selflessness and the vital role they play in safeguarding our country. We understand that the lives of military families are filled with unique challenges, and it was important for us to acknowledge their unwavering support and sacrifices as well. By dedicating time to honor our veterans and their families, we not only recognized their contributions, but also taught our students the values of respect, service, and patriotism, values that strengthen the fabric of our nation and community. It was a moment to reflect on the profound impact our military families have on our lives and to remind ourselves that their sacrifices are never forgotten.
