If you seek an exceptional private, Catholic kindergarten in Lake County, look no further. East Lake Academy is the place for your child. Our full day program from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM is an accelerated academic curriculum designed to engage and challenge your child in a developmentally age-appropriate way. Our students grow and thrive in a loving and safe environment. The kindergarten classroom is an active place where the children make new discoveries about themselves and the world around them. Our kindergarten program has high academic standards and is flexible to meet the needs of each child at his/her developmental stage. We use all modalities of learning: kinesthetic (moving), visual (seeing), auditory (hearing), and tactile (touching) to develop intrinsic learning and to further refine fine motor skills.

Our focus is on the development of the whole child through the Catholic educational philosophy of Integral Formation. This method involves the concentrated systematic and directed way of educating a child who becomes capable of projecting God’s love into the wider community and culture around him. We view Integral Formation through our four pillars: Academic, Character, Faith and Apostolic Formation.

Academically, our goal is to provide the highest level of academics that is socially age appropriate. Our focus is on the fundamentals of core subjects; religion, reading, writing and phonics, math, science, social studies and Spanish.  We also offer gym and art. Besides all of the activities that take place in the classroom, children have morning snack, daily recess, lunchtime, bookmobile visits, field trips, playtime, chapel visits, and weekly Mass.  An East Lake Academy kindergartner’s day is full of fun and learning.

Catholic Formation: The students learn faith attributes of God, love of Jesus, Old and New Testament Bible stories, and liturgical events/holidays and build upon the religion curriculum in Pre-K.  Kindergartners attend all school weekly Mass, monthly adoration and monthly class Mass. Our goal at East Lake is to teach the children “why” we believe what we believe as Christians and how to put that into practice.  Visit to see an authentic Catholic school in action.

Reading: Early literacy is essential. In kindergarten we continue with a phonics program that begins in East Lake Pre-K.  This multisensory and systematic phonics, spelling and handwriting program teaches foundational skills, and significantly supports reading, writing, and language development. Presented are the following concepts and skills in a cumulative manner from unit to unit and year to year up through second grade.

  • Letter formation
  • Phonological and phonemic awareness
  • Sound mastery
  • Phonics, word study, and advanced word study
  • Irregular (trick) word instruction
  • Vocabulary
  • Fluency
  • Comprehension strategies
  • Written composition (spelling and handwriting)

East Lake Academy kindergarten students consistently test above the 95th percentile nationally in Reading on the Stanford Achievement Test.

Math: Although classes have a set time for math, it is also integrated throughout the day, especially during calendar activities.  The series East Lake Academy uses is Saxon.  Learning is enhanced with the use of manipulatives and movement.  Students often do not realize that they are learning basic concepts that they will need to build upon for all their future math courses at East Lake Academy. A visit to the kindergarten classroom gives you an opportunity to see how Saxon Math is incorporated into the East Lake Academy kindergarten curriculum in an accelerated way.

Science and social studies: Many topics are covered in these areas. Some examples are the following but not limited to; important figures of American history, national symbols, statues and monuments, and stories about different cultures.  Topics are discussed, read about in books and fortified with engaging interactive activities.  Simple experiments and field trips also align with learning objectives.

Spanish: Taught in the communicative approach, Spanish is a core subject at East Lake Academy. Our program builds on the Pre-K curriculum as we teach the children to speak and read first. Kindergarteners have Spanish class daily.

We offer our families before- and aftercare beginning at 7:10 A.M. and extending until 6:00 P.M. in the evening.  All of our programs are staffed by our faculty, providing that signature East Lake Academy love and attention.  We have many students in our affordable extended day programs which offer a great opportunity for parents who both work outside the home and need a safe, loving environment with opportunities for after-school extra-curricular activities.

 Kindergarten Parent Testimonials

“Initially, we were drawn to ELA’s academic excellence.  During the tour, however, we embraced the character aspect of the school’s curriculum.  We are both extremely happy that our daughter is in ELA, and are confident that she will excel.”

“We chose East Lake Academy because we feel that the kids are loved and well nurtured. We also feel that there was a great combination of strong Catholic formation, great academics and building up of kids into confident leaders. We are really so thankful to see how happy and excited our boys are to come to school and learn!”
