On April 21st, East Lake Academy celebrated Spanish Heritage Day with performances from the students in the Preschool 3 year old program through 3rd grade. Their performances were not only memorable, but they brought one grandmother visiting from her native country of Colombia to joyful tears. She expressed her gratitude for a program that not only teaches her grandchild her native Spanish tongue, but also instills a love and appreciation for the many facets of her culture. Love and appreciation are perfect words to describe the enthusiasm these students put forth in their performances, ranging from original skits to dance and song. “The students, as young as Pre K4, knew exactly what they wanted to perform,” said Maritza Finlayson, the lower school spanish teacher. “They had a vision. I just helped them bring that vision to life.”
