Daily Works of Mercy

Inspired by the Church’s Jubilee Year of Mercy, the fourth grade class at East Lake Academy has been completing daily works of mercy.  Every month, the students focus on a different work of mercy.  For example, in September, our focus was on forgiving offenses.  Other months have included baring wrongs patiently, praying for the living and the dead, clothing the naked, and sheltering the homeless.  The fourth graders keep track of their works of mercy by sharing what they have done with their teacher, Mrs. Beattie, daily.  Each time a student performs a work of mercy, a small symbol of mercy is added to a classroom bulletin board.  At the beginning of the school year, the bulletin board was blank.  Now, halfway through the year, the fourth grade students have completed a heart, a boarder for the bulletin board, and are starting on an inner heart.  In doing this project, the fourth grade students are consistently being reminded to let their hearts be led by mercy
